A SUPER HERO HORROR MOVIE ?
This is the 11th movie of the X-Men franchise, and this new chapter will introduce a group of new mutants, but not in the super-hero type.

Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin / Magik
We have seen Anya Taylor-Joy lately in The Witch and Split, both really intense movies. In The New Mutants, she will be Magik, a russian mutant with sorcery powers who uses teleportation discs to travel. She's also the sister of Colossus (member of X-Men).
FIve young mutants are just discovering their abilities, while held in a secret facility against their will. They will fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.
The cast / Characters
It is indeed a X-Men franchise, so no doubt there will be a big budget on the cast.
Beginning with Josh Boone, the director, who also directed The fault in our stars (we bet he knows how to direct young adults).
For the main actors, we are pretty well served too. I like the cast, I think it has been really well chosen, and that they can get along pretty well too.
Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin / Magik

Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair / Wolfsbane
Already famous for being Arya Stark in Game of Thrones. Here she will be a Scottish mutant, struggling to reconcile her religious beliefs with her power to turn into a wolf.
Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie / Cannonball
This young actor has certainly been seen on every TV screen lately in Stranger Things. And here he will be a Kentuckian mutant who can propel himself into the air and is vulnerable while doing so.
Henry Zaga as Roberto Da Costa / Solar
He is not unknown either, as he played in Teen Wolf, XOXO (Original Netflix), and lately 13 reasons why (as Brad). As a new mutant, he will be a Brazilian mutant with the ability to manipulate solar energy.
Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar / Mirage
Blu Hunt is a bit less known than her co-stars but that is not her first role either. She already played in Girl on Girl, This is it, and The Originals. She is a native american actress, and as a mutant she will indeed be a native american mutant who has the power to create illusions drawn from the fears and desires of a person's mind (that is a cruel power, I love it!).
Alice Braga as Cecilia Reyes
Her character will be here to protect the group as a medical doctor who has the ability to generate a protective biofield around herself.
The new trailer looks like a horror movie taking place in the X-Men universe. This opus looks darker, mysterious, and a lot different from the other movies of the franchise. There will not be costumes or super vilain.
Apparently there will be three movies and each of them are going to be their own distinct kind of horror movie. This one tends to be a "rubber-reality" supernatural horror movie.
It is pretty risky to do such different movie from the others, and also to introduce new characters that way. The "horror" vibe is strong and the allusion to Nightmare on Elm Street is also here:
It has been 17 years now since the first X-Men movie came out, and it looks like 20th Century Fox understood that they could make different kind of super-heroes, as they did for thr R-rated Deadpool or Logan. Well, we're saying, yes please!
The New Mutants is hiting theaters on Friday 13th 2018. Of course, Friday 13th.
