✘ Pas un film de science fiction comme les autres, pas un film d'extra-terrestres non plus, mais The space between us peut faire figure d'ovni scénaristique (et il n'est pas tiré d'un livre).
✘ Not a science fiction movie like any other, not an alien movie either, but The space between us could be called a UFO, script-wise (and the story does not come from a book).
L'intrigue :
Dans un futur proche, une astronaut établie sur Mars découvre qu'elle est enceinte; mais ne va pas survivre à l'accouchement. Son fils, Gardner Elliot, vit sur la planète durant toute sa vie, mais va tisser une amitié internet avec une fille, appelée Tulsa, venant de la Terre. A ses 16 ans, Gardner va se voir accorder la chance d'aller sur Terre et de la rencontrer, et également d'en découvrir plus sur son père alors inconnu. Mais c'est rapidement qu'ils vont découvrir que ses organes ne peuvent survivre à l'atmosphère terrestre. Une course contre la montre va alors commencer, avant qu'il ne soit trop tard.
The plot :
Set in the near future, an astronaut stationed on Mars discovers she is pregnant; but will die in childbirth. Her son, Gardner Elliot, lives on the planet his whole life, but will form a friendship online with a girl from Earth named Tulsa. When he turns 16, he is given a chance to go to Earth and meet her, and discover more about his unknown father. But it is soon discovered that his organs cannot survie Earth's atmosphere. They will have to hurry before it's too late.
✘ La jeunesse sera sûrement plus touchée car les héros on 16 ans, mais l'histoire en elle même est bien plus profonde qu'une simple amourette de vacance, et relate en fait le chemin effectué par Gardner pour devenir humain. Il n'a appris des humains et de la Terre que par internet et les livres qu'il avait sur Mars. Il a donc devoir découvrir qui il est, et où est sa réelle place.
✘ Youth will surely be more affected because the main characters are 16 years old, but the story itself is much deeper than a mere holiday romance, and actually recounts Gardner's journey to becoming human. He learned from humans and the Earth only through internet and the books he had on Mars. He must therefore discover who he is, and where he belongs.
✘ Moi qui n'aime pas trop les films de science fiction à la base, je commence doucement à vraiment m'y ouvrir, grâce notamment à des scénarios originaux qui sortent de l'ordinaire (comme Seul sur Mars, Passenger, et donc The space between us). C'est comme une bouffée d'air frais qui nous fait vraiment plaisir !
✘ I do not really like science fiction movies normally. But I slowly start to really appreciate it, thanks to original scenarios that are out of the ordinary (like The Martian, Passenger, and The space between us). It is like a breathe of fresh air that makes us really happy !
