UMBRELLA ACADEMY

WELCOME TO THE BLACK PARADE! ... HUM NO, WELCOME TO THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY!

If you were a fan of the music band My Chemical Romance, you certainly know that Gerard Way (the lead singer and frontman) wrote some comic books named The Umbrella Academy. The first issue came out in 2007 and won the 2008 Eisner Award for Best Finite Series/Limited Series.
It quickly became popular and the fans were delighted when Netflix announced it has been picked up for a TV serie.

The plot of the comics:
The Umbrella Academy initially takes place in an alternate history where John F. Kennedy was never assassinated, and is primarily set in 1977 (the year of writer Way's birth), which is treated as the present. The titular team is described as a "dysfunctional family of superheroes" (akin to Marvel Comics Fantastic Four). In the mid-20th century, at the instant of the finishing blow in a cosmic boxing match, 43 superpowered infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy (it is hinted by a character implied to be God that they are collectively a modern-day incarnation of the Messiah). Sir Reginald Hargreeves a.k.a. The Monocle, an extraterrestrial disguised as a famous entrepreneur, adopts the surviving seven children, and prepares them to save the world from an unspecified threat as the Umbrella Academy. In Apocalypse Suite, the team disbanded and failed to stay in contact with each other until they were reunited upon the news of Hargreeves' death, and subsequently reformed the team after one of their own number became a supervillain.

CAST & CHARACTERS:

Tom Hopper as Luther Hargreeves / SpaceBoy
Spaceboy aka 00.01 is the leader of the team and twin of 00.005 The Boy. He has been the youngest person to become an astronaut. But he got involved in a disastrous mission to Mars, and Hargreeves performed a surgery on him to save him, by getting his heas attached to a Martian ape's body.

David Castaneda as Diego Hargreeves / The Kraken
Aka 00.02, The Kraken is the reckless and rebellious member of the group, and is known as a insolent brat. He has the ability to hold his breath indefinitely and showed a strong affinity for knife-throwing.

Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison Hargreeves / The Rumor
Aka 00.03, The Rumor has the power to manipulate through lying. If she says something that is not true, reality will adjust so that it is.

Robert Sheenan as Klaus Hargreeves / The Seance
He is also 00.04 and his powers are telekinesis and communicating with the dead (mostly through ouija boards), channeling them, communicating through the airwaves, possessing people and he can also levitate.

Aidan Gallagher as Number Five / The Boy
He disapeared at 10 years old, and reapeared 20 years into the future, but in his childhood form. He is capable of travelling through time, although he was forced to spend decades in the future, trying to prove the possibility of backwards time-travels before he was able to achieve it.

Ellen Page as Vanya Hargreeves / The White Violin

Adopted in order to save the world, The White Violin aka 00.07, has apparently no power and is a common girl (and according to her father she can barely play the violin).

It has been more than 10 years now that the first issue of the Umbrella Academy released!
Although it is not a DC nor a Marvel comic-based, it really has its own universe. The characters, atmosphere and artistic directions are different from classic super heroes series. Gerard Way can have a pretty dark, crazy and twisted universe, so, we hope it will be reflected in the TV show.
